Kevin Reavey: Bio

Kevin Reavey is a singer/songwriter from Somerset, New Jersey. He has shared a stage with Jason Mraz, Tristan Prettyman and many other nationally touring acts. His music has been described as having the emotional style of James Taylor, the quick wit of the Barenaked Ladies, and the verbal linguistics of Better Than Ezra.  He has often been described as a blend of the newer thread of songwriters.

Kevin Reavey started his solo career in 2003 while attending college in Newburgh, NY.  It was there that he started writing songs that would appear on 2005’s Starting Here.

Starting Here; the very raw collection of 16 acoustic tunes consisted of songs about love, life, and loss.  My Thoughts Exactly and Fairy Tales, songs that he once considered “throw aways” due to their comical nature, quickly turned into crowd favorites.  Innocence and Once in a While, although not so humorous, were also testaments to Kevin’s songwriting ability.

In 2006 Kevin began using loop samplers amongst an array of other effects to add a new dynamic to his live show.  He continued to write songs both serious and satirical; 7:10, a song about  the indifference of the general public along with the comical Stuff; an anti-love song about how women always seem to leave with more than they showed up with have both gained favor with his audience.  Kevin continued to gig through the end of 2006; playing shows in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, and his home state of New Jersey.

In January of 2007 KR recorded a live show to capture the looping that had become such a huge part of his music.  These recordings have never been officially released, but are often handed out on CDs at shows.  He continued to play through the end of 2007 at bars, coffee houses, and colleges throughout New York, New Jersey, and Maryland.

In 2008 KR played his first show in Massachusetts at UMASS Lowell as well as continuing to play in New Jersey, and New York.  He went back to his roots and started to play stripped down acoustic sets at Plainsboro NJ's Its a Grind without the aid of his pedals or a PA.  KR performed over 60 times in 2008.

KR spent a lot of 2009 working on his post Starting Here songs and branching out to perform with other local musicians.  He began building a home studio to record his next release and is learning about the places he can now take his music. He played a pair of shows at the 169 Bar in NYC as well as continuing to hit his normal spots in NJ.

Kevin Reavey is currently demo-ing songs and preparing for his next studio release.
